The responsibilities of our jobs, lives, children, spouses and/or careers can quickly send us into OVERLOAD. As givers we pour and pour and pour BUT 9 times out of 10, we forget to fill back up!
So the thought of having to prep meals, workout or do this weight loss thing AGAIN seems so unattainable. So what does one do? Do you give up again? OR do you give it over to God?
God says in His word, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV
Sometimes the very thing we need to give up is our wills, our plans, our goals & our agendas just for a moment of REST. I know this may seem contrary to your goals of losing weight OR making time to mediate and read God’s word but sometimes we just need to REST. In that Rest lies the strength, perseverance, desire, drive and passion you need to be FILLED again.
On Overload, What Has to Go?
- Spend more one on one time with God. 9 times out of 10 if we’re feeling overloaded, burdened & stressed then we’re carrying more than we should be bearing and not giving it over to Him. I Peter 5:7 God tells us to cast our burdens on Him. His yoke is easy and His burden is light (Matt 11:30). Take the time DAILY to release those burdens before they pile up and give yourself time to rest in Him.
- Ask God what should you cut back/out OR focus on in order to both REST in Him and also accomplish the goals He has for you in this season. Ask Him to reveal to you what distractions, bad habits, wrong attitudes and mindsets you need Him to help you let go of to make room for something NEW.
- Be OPEN to Change. In order to release yourself from your old ways, habits and mindsets you must 1st be open to changing. This is a daily ACTION. This may require you to try new foods, go to bed earlier, cut off the TV or to sit in silence when you’re used to noise. Renew your mind daily and you’ll be amazed at how amazing Change Feels. Romans 12:2.
